Wherever you find space enough in your home, a suitable size to accommodate a pool table, the variables of table size and cue length will dictate the space requirements. DON'T BE DISAPPOINTED AFTER THE FACT Be sure to take all room measurements. Physically measure or at least be as certain as possible of the billiards table dimensions. As well, account for the maximum space needed for cue reach. Standard pool cue length is 57 inches.
The minimum space needed for the smallest 7 ft pooltables is 11 ft x 14 ft with short cues.
Pool table manufacturers recommend for full size regulation billiard table a space of 14’ x 18’. That is a sizable room and still the minimum required for just playing. Allow at least 5 feet of space on all sides. Even more space is necessary if you want to include family room furniture or combine a multi-purpose games room décor.
BILLIARDS ROOMS USING MINIMAL SPACE Billiard Room Decor will be totally dependent on the dimensions of the space. All furniture needs to be outside of the range of the cue reach. Remember that even if furniture clears below the cue, in the course of play a players leg reach also needs to be considered when a player is reaching across the table. This may leave little or no space for furniture or spatial decorating, leaving only the options of wall décor, flooring options and billiard light fixtures.
If there is any space at all left over after fitting both table and cue space, the only furniture may be some bar stools or spectator chairs. Best at 30 inch height, for billiard chairs to easily view over the pool table, tuck them into the room corners to maximize space. You can still decorate creatively using the various required functional elements of the sport in the room design. Such elements as billiard cue holder, cases or racks can take on a decorative element when applied together with art, lighting and color.
Adequate lighting is essential, ideally a drop fixture low over the table to light without shadowing. A single light fixture is inadequate & will create shadows. A double light over the billiards pool table, as with any other task area, this method of lighting, lights without shadowing. If you are in the planning or building stages of a home, adding on or renovating, it is a great idea to plan effective lighting. Recessed flush-mount lights around the perimeter of the room, as well as over any task areas is recommended.
FLOORING best for billiard room décor is a non-slip floor covering, ideally low nap carpeting. The reason is to prevent slippage. Stocking-ed feet in most home interiors, can slip on smooth surface floors in those long reaches across the table. You will have to weigh up your flooring choices for personal preference, if you are concerned about drink and food spillage.
