COLOR
Chalet Decor, echoing its environment will incorporate warm, muted, earthy colours. Notice the colors of surrounding stone, earth, water and growth. Colors of mosses, bark and lichens inspire rich earthy tones. All colors may be used, but in their muted, toned or 'greyed' counterparts. Avoid pastels, whites, tints (white based) and 'clear' colors. Imagine red for instance. Tone it with just a touch gray or black, add a bit of mustard hue and you're heading in the right direction with a lovely warm rusty crimson. Muted color is true color, grayed and touched with another color hue, creating depth and warmth. Look for these color qualities when you ,choose paint color fabrics, upholstery, rugs, etc.
Choose colors as described above. Fabric is essential for 'softening' the effect of the hard edges of a lot of wood, stone and other hard surfaces used in chalet construction. Consider tweeds, nubby boucles and weaves. Tartan plaids are clssic. Try theme tapestries to fit your ski resort chalet, hunting lodge decor or Souhwest Rustic.For wildlife lovers, wilderness tapestries are a nostalgic touch for occasional chairs, seat covers and cushions. Area Rugs always visually and tactically warm up bare wood or tile floors at bedside, hearth and seating arrangements. Remember quilts, throws and blanketts to cozy up in!
