to also plan your paint scheme again. You don't lose - you gain, because next time you will do it even better and select the best paint color!
TO REDUCE WORK AND COST refer to the listing at the end of the page. Try to keep room paint color mistakes from snow-balling choosing paint colors correctly.
Paint Color is absolutely the single most satisfying & exciting element in Home Interior Decorating. House paint scheme affects how we feel. Choosing paint color that is right for you & your Living Spaces is the single most importantly effective interior decorating tool.
Think about this. Where does your eye go when you enter a room? What does it search for the moment you step out the door?
Try This: Close your eyes for about 3 minutes & think of red.
Red – anything – a red sunset, a red bouncing ball, red lipstick, red paint! red walls! – red ceilings!
Take note of what happens when you open your eyes. Even the suggestion of colour is powerful. Maybe that’s why we're apprehensive choosing paint colors.
Choosing Paint Color can make us feel wonderful in our homes, enhance our lives - or not. So we try hard! to get the 'best interior paint ideas' and select the 'latest house paint colors'. Color is very subjective & our desires & reactions change - just flow with it. My own room paint colors are changed fairly frequently - I love it!
Selection of room paint colors can feel 'butter-fly-ish', but gets easier the more you do it. What is the purpose of choosing a paint color that is 'safe'? Is it really? Is it a colour? Really? Or does it reveal our fear of REAL color? or of making mistakes? Or is it that critics voice that once said authoritatively, "Leaves aren't purple." Does that sound just a little like, "You can't paint ceilings purple!" mm?

Fun With RED - RED IS NOT RED!
Choosing Paint Color For Staging
Have Fun With Color!
It is amazing the impact colour-phobia has. I find realtors still recommending to clients 'off white', even though that so-called 'best interior paint' advice changed some time ago! Truly, for best cheapest restoration paint is still it, but get with color. The old 'shades of …white – with - something - in - it - maybe', paint scheme is very difficult.
Mind you every interior paint color has its place. Even white. I love white bathroom wall paint. It does take thought to make it appealing - mix up the texture, tints & tones - they do not need to 'match' your interior white paint - use variations for depth.
. Lavish textures of sculpted thick, thirsty white cotton towels & rugs against wash-white shiplap walls & louvered white cabinet doors take me to a seaside cottage. Add some white bowls filled with sea shells & the essence is set.
Think of nature. All colors go together. They don't 'match', but they work! When you're learning, 'matching' is safest. The key is in learning how nature does it. And that becomes instinctive with knowledge, practice & noticing color around you.
Children Have No Problem With Color & Expression - Play With Home Painting Ideas
TRY THIS
Get huge sheets of paper, some children's paint pots (or left over indoor paint) & big brushes. Mix and play. See what happens.
Learn the freedom of not having to 'make' or produce something. It doesn't have to be anything! But if you do enough of this, it will very well turn into ...something! ...perhaps the best paint ideas and home color ideas ever!
PAINTING YOURSELF?
Terrific! Painting draws interesting responses from people. Some love it, some hate it. When I paint wall surfaces, it is meditatively mesmerizing! The restoration paint effect is magic! There is nothing like it the possibility of tranforming room paint colors in a day. Now, preparation & clean-up is another story!
BUY QUALITY
Choosing Paint Color is one thing. Quality paint and a reputable, efficient paint store is another important consideration. The higher the cost, the better quality & texture of the paint.
Buy the best interior paint. It means you are paying for higher paint pigment ratio which covers best. Look for people with skill and experience whom you feel will competently guide you correctly & then mix the best interior paint brand correctly for you. After choosing paint color, get quality tools to ensure the best finish to your work.
Choosing Paint Color
These are some general interior paint ideas. There are always exceptions. The more skilled you become at choosing paint color, the more you are able to stretch the rules & become more creative.
Always choose a room paint color you love. Certainly there are many factors to consider:
* The people you live with – a big one!
* Deeper colors make the best impact
* Medium range colors are often deep enough for wall color
* Unless you are very skilled at choosing paint colors, the safest way to start out on your journey to experienced selection is to ‘match’ to an inspiring colour in your room; a fabric, art, etc.
* The colors of the floor & ceiling must also complement wall color. (>cont>)

Before You Paint
* Take samples with you to the paint store when you are choosing paint color - fabrics, carpet, anything you need to coordinate your paint to. Don't buy paint yet!
* Pick out as many paint chip samples that you think may work. More is better. If you worry about wasting them, don't. Bring them back to the store for re-use.
* Take the paint chips home & observe them in morning, afternoon & night lighting conditions & in the room(s) to be painted.
* Remember that the same paint color will look different in different rooms, in the changing light of day & night. It will be different on each wall of a room! In daylight, walls with light coming through a window can tend to appear darkest; the wall opposite a window the lightest.
* If you’ve picked a colour, but you aren’t sure of it, buy a litre (quart); it’s cheap! Paint a wall & live with it for a few days. How does it look in the different lights of day & night. Does it work with the room? Great! Try another if it doesn’t.(cont>>)
How do you want the room to feel? How do you want to feel in it? There is a lot to know about room paint color that I will continue to cover here. Link to other pages in this site to develop more understanding of design, especially the the elements of design . I truly hold that while color is the most transformative element, Home Lighting is the most important factor in interior design.
Learn to trust your inclinations toward choosing paint color. That little voice inside needs nurture and training to develop and carry out what it tells us! There are the many color characteristics - complementary color, color harmonies, psychology and color therapy, just to name a few.
Yellow – of course is a happy sunshine colour. It is excellent for dingy spaces with little or no light. It positively glows when the sun shines on it. It can be a mistake to use it in a bright room.
Green – is the colour of money! Green is a colour of serenity & rest, love and heart.
Red of course is passionate! And very warm.
Purple – intense, dramatic, spiritual, the deepest af all colors.
BLUE can be the most difficult color to work with. It can gray out except with just the right lighting. It is best with south or western exposure. (cont>>)
Space Tricks to Consider When Choosing Paint Color
When the ‘edges’ of colour fuse, or disappear, you create the
illusion of more space. When the ‘edges’ or places where colours meet are contrasting, it has a ‘stopping’ effect. The eye stops there. If the edges of colour are close in tone or tint, the ‘flow’ takes the eye over, with little or no ‘stop’ effect.
Another ‘space’ trick is to graduate colour from darkest on the floor, to lightest at the ceiling
Some paint ideas tend to go against tradition. Ceilings don’t have to be white! A couple of shades lighter than walls gives the illusion of more height. This is excellent for a low ceiling, attic or gabled ceiling, or one you want to ‘raise’. Dark celings have their place also.
For restricted spaces consider blending or harmonizing floor, wall & ceiling color to give the room more illusion of space when choosing paint color. Remember the effect of space with 'fusing edges'.
Avoiding The Pitfalls of Choosing Paint Colors
Tips to keep mistakes from getting out of hand, reducing waste of time and materials
1) Heed the advice on buying a small amount to test first.
2) If the color isn't correct, it is easy to try again.
3) Carefully calculate the amount needed and buy it all at once.
4) When a large amount is required, buy a 5 gallon bucket - this way there is no color variation.
5) Color can vary from one can of paint to the next and from one mixer to the next. They merely follow a formula, which can go wrong.
6) Test the color against the colour chip at the store, again in daylight and again where you will be painting it.
7) Always begin painting a new can of paint from a corner.
8) Use paint from the same can for entire walls unless you're certain each can is exactly the same. (cont>>)
Trying to Fix a Wrong Colour? This can be very difficult, if not nearly impossible, which is why paint stores have all those 'mistints' - all the more reason to take your time, select carefully and start small with a small amount to test. It is far easier to try out several color formulas, than try to change several cans of paint.
