WHAT IS YOUR MOOD? CHOOSING COLORS TO PAINT A ROOM
INTENSE COLORS CREATE DRAMA & SPACE DEFINITION
We have one life – let’s live it in color!
There is nothing in home or office décor that elicits more extreme emotion than richly pigmented wall color. Some will positively hate it – I haven’t figured out that response yet. For many of us it just fills our souls, making our hearts sing!
Using deep colors to paint a room creates such a huge décor impact, that it makes the rest of the décor application unbelievably simple.
· Red - sensual rich warmth, the most creative color resonating with the base body energy center, the earth chakra.
· Deep Blues and Greens are stately and somewhat formal
· Deep Yellows and Orange positively bloom like sunflowers exploding with the excitement of energizing vibrancy
· Purple is interesting, depending on the amount of red or blue tones. Purple being the most intense color of the rainbow spectrum, and is most intense with deep dramatic blue tones. A red hued purple lends itself better to more casual décor
· Chocolate and deep suede of course are rich earthy sensual colors that you can nestle right into. These are very comfortable tones.
SOFT COLORS CREATE DIFFUSION & SPACE EXPANSION
These are generally white titanium pigment bases with varying degrees of color in them. There is such a wide spectrum in this category that it is difficult to define.
SOFT SPRINGTIME TINTS
These clear tints in a white base, are the lovely inspiring pastels that take you away to a springtime day, the first garden blooms of lilac, daffodils, apple blossoms and fresh green grasses.
Among all colors this paint palette creates heart softening, inspiring, romantic, serene and restful effects. They relate to the upper body energy centers – the heart, throat and intuitive.
· Subdued pinks, peach, apricot, are gently heart inspiring
· Soft greens and blues, restfully serene, relate to the heart and throat energy centers
· Lavender, Lilac and Periwinkle, each tints of purple relate to how we connect to higher thought
· Sunny yellow is peacefully happy and inspiring
SOFT AUTUMN HUES
These are warm earthy restful colors to paint a room. Earthy fall tones will relate similarly to their springtime palette versions, but in deeper color mixes, muted with black, gray, and other colors. Medium earthy tone paints, often has a colored base instead of white, to produce warmer depth.
Look for the secondary color here. For example, rusty red is orangey, basically achieved with a bit of yellow & greyed with black for muting.
WHITE CREATES A VOID
An all white palette is serenely heart-filling when correctly designed upon layers of textures. Conversley it can create a mood of utter hopelessness!
What is the mood associated with white? Often white is chosen as a reflection of the inner need to create less complexity in life, clearing out, de-cluttering, simplifying. For some it is a lifestyle. Others go through various phases.
· Thought to be the easiest to work with, in fact whites are the most difficult, requiring far more effort to pull off. The natural tendency is to try to ‘fill in’ the negative space or 'void' white creates.
· Pure white is used for some applications, like millwork, cabinets, not usually recommended for wall color.
· White is usually given a drop of color tint - look for it.
· Monochromatic scheme is successfully achieved using textural elements.
