Not only is HOME STAGING a new concept to many, depending on individual communities, but the next logical thought to follow will be, "How do I chose a stager?" Sell your home and save thousands in commission.

HOME STAGING STATISTICS
What is the difference between the functions of STAGING & INTERIOR DESIGN &/or Decorating? The distinction is simply this. When selling a home, it requires an esthetic that appeals to the buyer, not the seller.
But don’t be fooled. Some engaging & teaching this in field would have you believe they are the only ones qualified to take on the specialized task because they have taken 'the course' & have one or more tags behind their name. The 'TAGS' are misleading. There is no recognized governing body; no such thing as ‘accreditation’ or ‘certification’. Course founders have 'made up' thier own 'qualifications'. This is an unregulated field anywhere. Many in the trade have to their credit a 1 - 5 day course whose founder has made up a 'tag' of supposed accreditation, which is issued on completion of the course. The tag means little. The merit of the (expensive)courses is the focus on decorating for resale. It is supplemental to interior design or decorating. Anyone can take these courses, seasoned designers, decorators & those with no design skill whatever.
INTERIOR DESIGNERS by contrast, are educated in 2 – 5+ years university or technical programs. DECORATORS often are skilled by years of experience, & may or may not be formally educated in design. CHOOSING A STAGER So who should you choose? A background in interiors is an excellent foundation. What needs to be applied is the knowledge & technique pertinent to Real Estate Home Selling. Ask questions pertinent to Staging for Sale. The Home Staging courses equip Stagers with sales-specific tools, but not Interior Design skills. A good course of direction may be to first get a consultation. Once you feel confident about the information from that, go ahead & book your Home Staging session. Base your choice on confidence to deliver. Look for a comprehensive report disclosure on the property during the consultation. Skill, knowledge & experience will shine through here. The Stager you choose should have the knowledge pertaining to designing for resale. It is not the tastes of the current owner or decorator / designer, but ultimately the appeal to the potential buyer that matters. The bottom line is really whether the 'professional' is skilled, regardless of the 'tags' accompanying their names. You want to make the best of your home sale.
