For existing wiring, plan to utilize a variety of lamps for lighting the room perimeters. However if you are in the planning stages, it is well worth the time it takes to work the floor and furniture plan very carefully to include some floor outlets. There are a myriad of decorative delights to apply in the room interior, from sofa table to reading lamps. Remember shelving often holds treasures that beg lighting enhancement with wired-in concealed light or a small shelf lamp. Keep lamps in scale with the furniture. Small buffet lamps belong on the buffet, not flanking the huge sofa – and vice versa.
