CARPETING is really most comfortable and effective here for comfort, sound absorption and visual softening. There is really very little use of textiles in office spaces, making for an over-abundance of strong hard surfaces and lines. Textiles soften hard edges. In the office, the carpet and perhaps upholstery on chairs are really the only uses. For a warming palette, choose rich earthy tones. So much in the office is already metallic, so avoid whites, light cool beiges and grays. TEXTILES very effectively soften and warm hard surfaces, but aside from upholstery and carpeting, can be difficult to incorporate into office décor. So if you are installing flooring, definitely consider carpet that will work with the wall color in creating a warm inviting work space. For the executive or business office with minimal traffic a rich area rug is a delicious touch. There i snothing wrong with a marvelous marble floor tossed with an exquisite quality carpet. However for the high tech look of the ‘Modern’ Office Décor, mentioned above, the layering of lines and planes, with minimal color will be exactly what you want to achieve. To pull this off successfully however, can be more challenging.
WINDOWS IN OFFICE DECORATING Ah, that prized Corner Office is the one with all the windows and views! We love to be able to see out beyond work and to have the light shine in. The importance of light has become well recognized in the way it makes us feel. Some sort of blind to keep out stronger rays is the standard window treatment for business. There is nothing to keep you from adding a softening window covering, with a professional flair if you are able to do so. Remember no frou-frou! 
ART in OFFICE DECORATING and Business Interior Design Here is where you can really make a statement, especially when there are no windows. Wonderful large pieces with vibrant color and light can be a marvelous substitute for a window. Remember also to highlight with spots or track lighting.
What kind of art is best for office decorating? Some believe in hard-driving slogan inspired pieces. On a psychological level, this type of art be a hard-driving downer, actually creating performance anxiety. Very few are actually inspired by these kinds of images. The best art for office and business spaces is that which inspires, reminding you of WHY you work - images of beautiful places in the world, events and dreams to aspire to. Images of flowing water are most inspiring to work and career. Hang art that inspires. There are more than ever quality fine art prints, giclee, canvas and framed pieces available due to increased print technology. CEILINGS – Space Equals Success Remember ceiling space can play a significant role, especially in office decorating. Whenever possible accentuate ceiling height with architectural details and possibly color. Ceilings don’t have to be white – and indeed should not be! With a high ceiling, many options are possible. Consider crown moldings to create coved visual flow accentuating height. Another excellent option is decorative ceiling tile. A low ceiling can be made ‘higher’ by painting it a lighter tint of the wall color. The contrast of the white ceiling with the wall color has an actual STOP effect, visually cutting flow, reducing height.
