It makes sense that such a highly utilitarian fixture-oriented small space is a challenge. In the west we particularly are attached to space. Taking the example from small apartment spaces in European cities, there is a common thread in successful bath decor even in the most compact spaces. So you have the tiniest room – filled with utility fixtures – toilet, sink, bath, shower – how exciting! Not? Okay, let’s offer some solutions.
Many surfaces can be painted. Paint is always the first obvious recommendation. Color choice is critical for a variety of reasons. Keep paint color light and avoid contrast in the room. Harmonize with the color of the fixtures as closely as possible so they will blend. That doesn’t mean if they’re white, to use necessarily use white paint. If so, remember to create textures with white in the room.
For example, if fixtures are white with aqua flooring, pick up a tint of aqua in the white base paint. This is how you will maintain unity and flow. The smaller the room, the higher the recommendation for choosing from the many tints of white. The typical tiniest Parisian Apartment Bathroom is all white and successfully so. REMEMBER THE POWDER ROOM I've noticed that powder rooms I've visited, not used much by the residents tend to feel uncomfortably formal, or not up to standard. Make sure to give your guests a warm welcome in this room as in others. Keep the decor, art and color up to date to avoid a dreary feel. Don't let dust collect in the towels - not at all appealing.
